A Jazz Quartet
a musical eve...


Jesse Charnow –drummer : Jesse Charnow has studied and played with Ravi Shankar, Anoushka Shankar, Tim Shea, Richard Wilson (Snare Drum Technique), Zoro, the Mira Costa Jazz Band, the New Haven Symphony Orchestra and rock legend Ike Turner. His performances include a broad spectrum of music, including Classical symphonic works, Jazz, Reggae, Blues, Funk & Rock. He has performed extensively.
Leo Dombecki-pianist & composer : Leo Dombecki is a multi-instrumentalist from Detroit, Michigan. He has a wide variety of experience in jazz, blues, and rock music - notably with Ike Turner and The Kings Of Rhythm, the remix project Mr. DSP, and the group Jazmin, which included students under Pandit Ravi Shankar, who named the group and invited them to India in 2005 to study and perform.
Ratul Shankar-percussion- Ratul Shankar comes from a lineage that by itself doesn’t need any introduction. He belongs to the First Family of Indian Music., the Shankars. Ratul Shankar is just not carrying his family torch. He is a percussionist, an actor (a debutant in Rituporno Ghosh’s Utsab, (2000) and above all a musician par excellence.He breathes music and is thoroughly in love with it.Ratul is a true disciple of his Guruji, Pandit Tanmay Bose and has been performing in Taal Tantra for the last 6 years. None other than Ananda Shankar, inculcated rhyme and rhythm in him, in his formative years.He has a degree in Mass Communication and Videography from St Xaviers and has already performed with maestros like:

Mainak “bumpy” Nag Chowdhury- Mainak “Bumpy”Nag Chowdhury has worked extensively as a globe trotting bass player and music producer . In the years of his professional playing in studio and live sessions, he has played various styles ranging from Latin(Afro–Cuban, Afro-Brazilian), Pop, Rock ,World music, World fusion, Progressive rock and Jazz, with some of the most sought after performers of the country and abroad ,with the likes of Tanmoy Bose (pandit Ravi Shankar's tabla player's project Taaltantra), Taufiq Qurashi, Pt Debashish Bhattacharya, Amit Heri, Dhruv Ghanekar, Vikramjit “Tuki” Banerjee, Matthias Mueller (Germany), Tilmann Dehnhard (Germany) , Brian Melvin (U.S.A), Amit Chaudhuri's This is not Fusion, to his own duo pop-rock chart-buster vernacular album with Rupam (Titled "RnB"), Time Travil (Indo-U.S.A project), Kesivan Naidu Project(Indo-South Africa), The Orient Express , Krosswindz, Summit Attempt, Yatakas, Art of Living Band ,Urban Reflections ,Tilmann Dehnhard Quartet(Indo-German),Mueller-Dehndard Quartet (Indo-German) to name a few.

About Us

The Weavers Studio Centre for the Arts, the first phase of our larger project the Weavers Studio Resource Centre was inaugurated on November 1, 2007. This is a program Centre for the Arts covering the visual arts, cinema, theatre, photography, ceramics, sculpture,paintings, performing arts, communication and interactions a  space that encourages young talent. 

The Centre includes a small library for arts and a multipurpose space for exhibitions and interactive events. The Centre has so far held exhibitions & workshops in hand blown glass, ceramics, folk arts, theatre, photography,  film screenings,  music appreciation courses, art, craft, textiles, jewelry , book launches, talks and more. The Centre is run as a not for profit creative and cultural space and  aims to promote awareness in the field of art and culture.

Its commercial events will help towards the construction and the sustenance of the Weavers Studio Resource Centre coming up in October 2008. The Center also aims to work together with other cultural institutions in Kolkata , India and abroad.
